As airlines seek to maximise revenue in their premium cabins, many are investing in what The Up Front is calling “studio class” suites: front-row business-plus seats, offering larger footwell areas, more sleeping area, extra living space, partner dining, higher walls, a bigger entertainment screen, additional storage, better bedding, upgraded catering, and a few extra treats.

But where did this new semi-class of travel come from, how do the various options compare, what are the challenges, how are the seats sold — and what are the implications for the rest of the passenger experience, and commercial aviation more widely of studio class as it spreads?
